Founded in the early 1990s the Falkland Islands Tourist Board (FITB) is the peak industry body for tourism industry in the Falkland Islands, driving forward industry development and representing local operators. Funded jointly by government, member subscriptions and its own efforts, FITB has a board of nine directors and a small team of professionals based in Stanley. FITB currently boasts over 80 members from the local tourism industry. Along with the responsiblity of marketing the Falkland Islands as a prime international wildlife destination, FITB also manages the Jetty Visitor Centre in Stanley. Open seven days during the high season, the centre provides a free, comprehensive information service to visitors, as well as offering public internet and rest room facilities, and the sale of local produce, crafts, and Falkland Islands literature and DVDs/videos. |
